Another Day. Another Project.

Have you ever found yourself with an insatiable desire to keep yourself busy? I wasn’t always like that, but now I have found that I am constantly needing to stay busy.

In 2014 my son had finally started attending public school and I was working from home for a national corporation (a job I still have today). I was relatively busy at work, but it wasn’t enough. After speaking with my husband, we decided that I would go back to school and finally complete out my Bachelor’s Degree. I took four classes that Fall semester. Three months later we decided to have another child. That child is now five and a half years old. Each semester I had a full-time schedule, a full-time job, two kids, two dogs, and a husband to care for. My husband helped a lot during that time as I balanced all the things. I graduated in 2017. It was a quiet two months and then I decided to go back again for an MBA. The following year, I threw in a move to another state. I successfully completed my MBA program in 2019. Six months later, the world was thrust into a global pandemic.

I had a lot of time on my hands after I graduated. I was still working full-time and from home for the most part. For Christmas 2019 I created small ornaments for my son’s teachers and a few other amigurumis for friends and family. That got me through January/February. Quarantine started in March here in Pennsylvania. I found myself having even more time. That is when I decided to dive head first into my crochet craft.

My first project came in the form of a small graphghan inspired by the cult classic Firefly. I finished that project and immediately went into another…and another…and another. It is not uncommon for me to have multiple projects going at the same time. Repetitive patterns can get boring so I find having a few options available to me help to keep me from becoming disengaged from crafting.

Earlier today I completed an order for a Ruth Bader Ginsburg inspired amigurumi and sat at my desk wondering what was next. I still have a few squares to finish for my Charlotte’s Dream Four Seasons blanket, two and a half more amigurumis of the Golden Girls, a Sailor Moon themed graphghan of my own design, and some small beginner kits that will hopefully hit my shop soon. It didn’t seem like enough. I started a new shawl. It is in the beginning stages, but I can’t wait to show off the finished product!

Do you think it’s too much? Not enough? What is on your to do list?
