Hobby Turned Passion.
As a young person I was taught to crochet simple items with a single stitch. I abandoned the craft pretty quickly as kids do. It wasn’t until many years later after I had my first child that I picked up the hook again. I started with small palm sized animals and a miniature coffee mug, because coffee. This style is often referred to as amigurumi. Soon after, a friend reached out and asked if someone could make a lap blanket for her. After a short contemplation, I raised my hand and offered to do it. This blanket allowed me to move beyond a single crochet stitch and technique.
Fast forward to 2020 and a pandemic. Most people needed a hobby to keep them busy while we were forced into quarantine by COVID-19. Some joined TikTok, some baked bread, while others bought out the world of toilet paper. For me, I dove head-first into crochet. I bought all the yarn, grabbed a pattern, my hooks, and began making my first corner-to-corner (C2C) blanket based on the cult favorite TV show, Firefly. That was followed by a four seasons take on a pattern called Charlotte’s Dream by Dedri Uys and Jenny Lowman of Look What I Made, which is still in process thanks to the support of my friends and family.
When Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away there was a mass desire to obtain things that looked like and reminded us of her greatness. My contribution was a Ruth Bader Ginsburg amigurumi that my friend found in the book Crochet Iconic Women by Carla Mitrani. That is when my crafting took off. Everyone wanted one. I built up my little craft business on Etsy and keep growing little by little.
I still have my day-to-day job that pays the bills, but this hobby turned passion is one business that I hope will grow as fast as my little fingers can fly.
